Sprindgale Utah Information

Springdale is a very small town, located in the southwestern area of Utah. Springdale is known as “The Gateway to Zion National Park.” This is because the town is located right outside of this popular national park. Springdale is a fantastic tourist area for those who want the small town feel during their vacation. There are so many things that make Springdale special. By learning a little bit about the area before you arrive, you will feel more connected to your destination and be able to make the most of your stay.

About Springdale
Springdale is an extremely small US town. The 2010 census revealed that there were only about 530 people living within the city limits. The majority of the town’s wealth is made through tourism, since many people stay in, or pass through, Springdale when visiting the surrounding state parks.

The town itself is quite small, as well. Springdale encompasses a total of 4.6 miles of land. This means that you could easily walk the entirety of the town and see all it has to offer. Though the total mileage of Springdale is quite small, there is so much to see and do within the area and on the outskirts. This town is so wonderful, in fact, Forbes Traveler Magazine named it one of the United States 20 prettiest towns.
The area of Springdale has many different natural wonders to offer. Springdale is located at an elevation of 3,900 feet, which means you are not at a terribly high elevation, but the increased elevation can be difficult for some to get used to. The rocky terrain and beautiful formations make for scenic views that cannot be competed with. Springdale offers all the wonder of the wild west in a small-town setting.History of Springdale
The history of Springdale makes for a very interesting story. Indigenous people used the area between the years of 500 A.D. and 1200 A.D, approximately. Eventually, European and Spanish explorers made their way to the Springdale area, most likely while on their way to California. Springdale was officially settled in 1862 by Mormon pioneers, but it took quite a while for it to become a budding tourist town.

By 1917, there were well-established roads to the area, which allowed for tourism. Between the Wiley Way Camp, the first tourist business, and the dedication of Mukuntuweap National Monument, which is Zion National Park today, there was plenty to see and do in the Springdale area. Soon after, development started to take off and led to electricity, gasoline, stores, and other tourism-centered businesses.
Once the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway and Tunnel was completed in 1930, there was nothing stopping the small town of Springdale from becoming an important tourism hub. Advancements continued steadily, eventually resulting in the beautiful town of Springdale of today. The story of Springdale, and its success as a small town, is a true American west story. By understanding the amazing history of this town, you will be able to better appreciate its beauty when you visit.Things to do
The number of things to do and see in, and around, Springdale is incredible. With it being such a small town, you may assume that it is lacking in the attraction and amenity department. This couldn’t be further from the truth. You will be overwhelmed by the lovely hotels, unique businesses, and amazing scenery. While there are lots of great things to do in the area, the following is a list of must-sees during your visit. Whether you are here for weeks or just passing through, you’ll want to make sure you give Springdale a chance to wow you.

Local shops and galleries
As you meander along the area of downtown Springdale, you will come to realize that there are many specialty and gift shops waiting to be explored. These stores are a great opportunity to get souvenirs for those at home, or maybe a little something for yourself. Many of the items you will find are truly one of a kind. The shops carry things that are handmade, like jewelry, relate to the local history, like native instruments, and even geologic treasures, like crystals. You will walk away with something you could never buy anywhere else in the world.

Outdoor adventures
It’s no secret that what really brings people to the Springdale area is its beautiful neighbor, Zion National Park. The park offers so many opportunities to do and see things that you may have never experienced. If you have come to Springdale with the intention of getting out into the wide-open spaces of Utah, you will be able to do just that in nearby Zion National Park.

Tours and guides
Sometimes, exploring a new area can be quite daunting. You may not be sure where the best place to hike is, or you may want advice on the most scenic views. These conundrums are where tour and guide companies are useful. Springdale is home to a variety of companies who will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. Since they are extremely familiar with Zion National Park, they are the best people to enlist when you want to get the most out of your journey. By consulting a touring company, you are ensuring that you will not miss a single important part of the park. For those looking to really experience and appreciate Zion, you will find the tours and guides to be invaluable assets.

No matter when you decide to visit Springdale, you will not be disappointed.
